Agnone is the city of the patron saint of the chefs of Italy, San Francesco Caracciolo.
The saint came to the city in 1608 and here died a few days later, on the 4th of June, because of a sudden fever. The friars of the order of St Philip Neri had asked him to come to Agnone to found a mission of his order. It is told that the heart of the saint was hidden by the friars in the Church of the Annunciation in Agnone and was never found.
